WOW Engineering Guide

Engineering is one of the most expensive professions on World of Warcraft, but it gives your character access to some very interesting items. It can really change up your game play if you’ve been looking for a different spin on the game. You’ll want to choose mining as your other profession to cut back on how much gold you’ll have to spend on your way to engineering level 450.

Engineering is definitely one profession you’ll want to wait to level until your character reaches level 40. You might choose two gathering professions until you reach level 40, and then switch one of them out to engineering when you do hit level 40. You’ll have to pay some gold to switch professions, but all the gold you’ll make from having two gathering professions will make it worth the gold to switch professions. Engineering won’t really pay off for your character until the later levels anyway, so this is another reason to wait before leveling engineering.

You get the option to specialize in either Gnomish or Goblin engineering when you reach level 200. Most of the items you can make under both specializations are the same, although there are a few items which an engineer of one specialization can make, while the other can’t. But overall, there’s not much of a reason to choose one over the other.

Here’s a breakdown of the engineering levels. Visit the engineering trainer whenever you can to pick up new plans.

WOW Engineering Guide – Apprentice Engineering

• Levels 1 – 25: Rough Blasting Powder
• Levels 25 – 50: Handful of Copper Bolts or Rough Dynamite

WOW Engineering Guide – Journeyman Engineering

• Level 50 – 51: Arclight Spanner (Hold on to this item because you’ll need it to craft more items later.)
• Levels 51 – 75: Copper Tubes, Copper Modulators
• Levels 75 – 90: Coarse Blasting Powder
• Levels 90 – 95: Coarse Dynamite
• Levels 95 – 125: Bronze Tubes (sell these for a pretty penny on the Alliance Auction House), Silver Contacts, Practice Locks, Flying Tiger Goggles

WOW Engineering Guide – Expert Engineering

• Levels 125 – 150: Heavy Blasting Powder, Whirring Bronze Gizmos, Big Bronze Bombs
• Levels 150 – 175: Gold Power Cores, Bronze Frameworks, Explosive Sheep (These are fun to play around with)
• Level 175 – 176: Gyromatic Micro-Adjuster (Keep this item because you’ll need it later.)
• Levels 176 – 200: Iron Struts, Gyrochronatoms, Solid Blasting Powder, Mithril Tubes

WOW Engineering Guide – Artisan Engineering

• Levels 200 – 225: Unstable Triggers, Hi-Impact Mithril Slugs, Mithril Casings
• Levels 225 – 300: Hi-Explosive Bombs, Mithril Gyro-Shot, Dense Blasting Powder, Thorium Grenades, Thorium Tubes.

WOW Engineering Guide – Master Engineering

• Levels 300 – 325: Handfuls of Iron Bolts, Elemental Blasting Powder, Fel Iron Bombs, Fel Iron Casings, Fel Iron Muskets
• Levels 325 – 350: Adamantite Frames, Adamantite Grenades, Crashin’ Thrashin’ Robot (This one is lots of fun and usually sells well on the auction house.)

WOW Engineering Guide – Grand Master Engineering

• Levels 350 – 375: Cobalt Bolts, Volatile Blasting Triggers
• Levels 375 – 400: Overcharged Capacitors, Froststeel Tubes
• Levels 400 – 425: Diamond-Cut Refractor Scopes, Boxes of Bombs, Healing Injector Kids, Mana Injector Kids
• Levels 425- 450: Noise Machines, Heartseeker Scopes, Sun Scopes
• Level 450: Epic Goggles
